Organization
The Crete Marathon is a cultural and, mainly, sports event that has been taking place in Chania since 2016. It is the only Green Marathon in Greece and is part of the official calendar of sport events of SEGAS.
The race is dedicated to the Blessed Metropolitan Ireneos Galanakis, who has developed important religious, humanitarian and social work in Crete, while the 10km Race Course is dedicated to Captain Kostas Eliakis, who gave his life in defending the Greek air space.
The Marathon of Crete includes a variety of events and culminates with the Games:
